Woodside Slide
Six days of reining in the redwood hills of the San Francisco Bay Peninsula — a legacy in the making on California's premier reining grounds.
A summer
spent sliding.
Founded in 2025 by NRHA Hall of Fame horseman Pat Warren and Barbara Phillips to bring world-class reining back to the Bay Area.
The Woodside Slide brings world-class reining back to the San Francisco Bay Peninsula — elite competition, deep roots in the sport, and a celebration of the Western lifestyle.
Held at the Horse Park at Woodside — an hour south of San Francisco, tucked into the redwood-shaded foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains — the Slide brings top horses and riders from across the country together for six days of competition.
Behind it: more than 25 years of industry leadership from NRHA Hall of Fame horseman Pat Warren, paired with Barbara Phillips' modern perspective — shaped by elite training with Luca Fappani and a background spanning technology and the hunter/jumper world.
Classes run Open and Non Pro through Novice Horse, Rookie, Youth, and Green Reiner. Between runs, the show village fills with hospitality tents, Western lifestyle vendors, and evening socials — building to the Derby finale that pulls the whole community in. Whether you're showing, watching, or just here for the lifestyle — you're part of it.
$175,000+
One of the richest reining purses on the West Coast — with a division for everyone chasing it, plus concurrent CRHA classes and TRFAM Semi Finals qualifiers running all week.

What is
reining?
Reining is a judged Western discipline in which horse and rider perform a set NRHA pattern — small slow and large fast circles, flying lead changes, rollbacks, and 360-degree spins. The standard, in the NRHA's words, is a horse "willingly guided or controlled with little or no apparent resistance."
The signature maneuver is the sliding stop: from a lope, the horse brings its hind legs underneath itself in a locked position and slides on its hind feet — back rounded, front legs keeping their cadence, the whole stop held in a straight line. Admission is free — bring the family.
Woodside,
California.
A picturesque town in the redwood hills of San Mateo County — horse country since the 1850s.
Tucked between the Pacific and Silicon Valley, Woodside has been horse country for more than a century — at the base of the Santa Cruz Mountains, shaded by second-growth redwoods, with cool summer evenings off the ocean.
