01 — The Event

A summer
spent sliding.

Carrying forward the legacy of Reining by the Bay — one of the most beloved events on the West Coast.

The Woodside Slide is a new chapter for reining on the San Francisco Bay Peninsula — same storied grounds, same spirit, new name.

Held at the Horse Park at Woodside — an hour south of San Francisco, tucked into the redwood-shaded foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains — the Slide brings top horses and riders from across the country together for six days of competition.

Classes run Open through Non-Pro, Youth, and Green Reiner. Between runs, the show village fills with hospitality tents, Western lifestyle vendors, evening socials, and a finals week that pulls the whole community in.

Whether you're showing, watching, or just here for the lifestyle — you're part of it.

What is
reining?

Reining is the Western discipline recognized by the US Equestrian Federation — sometimes called "Western dressage." A rider guides their horse through a precise pattern of circles, spins, and the sport's signature move: the sliding stop, where a galloping horse plants its hind feet and slides across the dirt while its front legs keep marching.

It's athletic, it's subtle, and once you've seen a good slide, you don't forget it. Admission is free — bring the family.

05 — The Location

Woodside,
California.

A picturesque town in the redwood hills of San Mateo County — horse country since the 1850s.

Tucked between the Pacific and Silicon Valley, Woodside has been horse country for more than a century — at the base of the Santa Cruz Mountains, shaded by second-growth redwoods, with cool summer evenings off the ocean.
